Overview

Joining MCers to Find Identity on the Study Abroad Journey

On January 16th, Elio Education had an incredibly exciting exchange with nearly 300 Marie Curie students from grades 10 and 11 at the Viet Hung campus to together decode the question "Where does studying abroad begin?". Instead of dry theories, the journey to finding personal identity was guided through "real people, real stories" from Elio's speakers, bringing about an open and energetic space for dialogue.

Opening the sharing session, Ms. Thu Phuong – Product Development Director of Elio Education, Master's graduate from Harvard University and Alumna of Marie Curie school year 09-13, took the MCers around the world to get the most comprehensive overview of studying abroad in the US, UK, Australia, or Singapore. She affirmed that the Marie Curie environment itself is the perfect launching pad to help students practice English and writing skills daily without having to take extra classes elsewhere. She also offered practical advice that students should strive to achieve a GPA above 8.5 and complete international certificates such as IELTS and SAT early, while taking advantage of every opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities to understand what they are lacking and what they need.

Continuing that flow of emotion, Mr. Lam Duc – CEO of Elio Education, Master's graduate from the University of Pennsylvania, helped the students untangle the career orientation puzzle. He emphasized that to choose a school smartly, they need to understand three core elements: themselves, and the nature of the job, rather than chasing temporary "hot" majors. Through tools such as Big Five, DISC, or Holland Code, Mr. Duc inspired the MCers to understand that everyone has their own suitable career environment, and this is an exciting process of discovery rather than a competition of who knows earlier.

In addition to major selection strategies, Phuong Nhi - a former MC student and New York University graduate, also shared "survival" tips about independence when setting foot in new lands. She shared that studying abroad is not just about changing study locations, but a journey of taking responsibility for oneself, from managing time effectively to being autonomous in financial spending. These skills need to be practiced right from when sitting on the school bench through self-planning study schedules and managing daily personal life.

The conversation has closed, but the echoes and motivation still spread strongly in the hearts of students like Bao Lan or Minh Quang, helping them believe in themselves more and step firmly on the journey to conquer their dreams.
